Working towards a safer Mission Bay School

Let's get Mission Bay ready to welcome this school

Our work

For more than a decade, a dedicated group of Mission Bay residents, preschool leaders both in Mission Bay and in the surrounding neighborhoods, and engaged community members and local stakeholders have been working together as a Steering Committee in support of the Mission Bay School. In the last few years, a subset of this group took a particular focus on making sure it will be safe for children to get to and from school.  We have been out at the intersections surrounding the school site with radar guns and clipboards, gathering data at various times of the school day to help inform decision-making and safety upgrades.  We have drawn up a variety of maps.  We have used measuring tape to figure things out.

Some of the safety improvements we are working to advance are longer-term in nature, such as redesigning the traffic circle for better bike and pedestrian safety.  Other improvements, like traffic calming on Mission Bay Blvds North and South, seem achievable before the first day of school in August 2026.
